Small Works of Whimsy
This show was all about showcasing the magical, whimsical and fantastical during the opening months of Flying Horse Gallery. These pieces were all under $500 and under 8 x 8 inches. We have over 30 artists from around the globe participate, to bring a new flavor of art to Central Oregon!
Tracy Piper

THE TRACY PIPER (b. Oakland, CA, 1987) is a contemporary painter, muralist, author and art activist. Best known for her vibrant portraits and figurative acrylic paintings, Piper’s illustrative work tackles social constructs in an abstract-realist style. She has shown at SCOPE and SELECT in Miami, FL; stARTup Art Fair in San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; SCOPE New York, NY; and exhibits internationally. In 2017 Tracy competed on the GSNTV show “Skin Wars: Fresh Paint” and emerged victorious! Tracy’s murals span both coasts with a focus on positive and inclusive messaging. Her debut book “Worthy,” along with “SEEN” Volumes 1, 2 & 3 are available through Voss Gallery Books. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from California College of the Arts and is represented by Voss Gallery.

Jo Tomsick

Originally from the birthplace of rock, Jo is the only painter born into a family of musicians. She now calls North Carolina home, and credits the lush nature of the ever-changing Carolinas for allowing her work to blossom.
Jo’s imaginary is stocked with the fairytales and myths that captivated her as a child. Interpreting these narratives as an adult begs questions, like how do fairytales shape the way a person sees the world? How does experience change our remembrance of childhood stories? Jo seeks to impart wisdom and a sense of connection, of shared experience, through her work.

Sloane is a resident artist, and co-owner, of Flying Horse Gallery. For the past 15 years she has had a career in video games, having studied illustration in university to kick start her career in gaming. Finally, in 2023, she picked up paints for the first time and started using color.
Her work is focused around fantasy and whimsy. Around creatures you see in your dreams and characters who make you feel strong and otherworldly. It’s all about the unseen magic.

Kanako Abe is a kirie artist based in Seattle, WA. Being originally from Japan, Kanako specializes in the intricate art of kirie, a term that translates to paper cutting. Using the meticulous technique of paper cutting, she transforms sheets of paper into intricate designs with a precision knife. Hours of dedication, concentration, and patience are woven into each piece.Inspired by nature, the starry sky, woodland animals, folklore and dreams, Kanako's creations are visual journeys through these realms. Each cut tells a story, navigating the space between the imagined and the tangible.

Lea Barozzi

Lea Barozzi is a Portland, OR artist whose work has shown all over the world. Her illustrations have been featured on surfboards, skateboards, books, jewelry, and apparel. Lea Barozzi's subject matter juxtaposes innocent doll-like maidens with distorted natural imagery and psychological symbolism. When she is not covered in paint, she enjoys exploring the Oregon coast, listening to punk rock, and devouring scifi/fantasy books.
